The company was founded in 1997 and has since developed its own performance culture. This diverse company of 20+ members from all of the Penn undergraduate and graduate schools, as well as the greater Philadelphia area, seeks to explore hip-hop, jazz, contemporary, free-styling, lyrical, breaking, locking, popping, and funk, while still recognizing the personal styles of individual dancers. Funk has no limits.

Each Funk show features an overarching theme, of which all numbers aim to explore from a different perspective. Theatrical dances and scenes implore both the audience and the dancers themselves to reconsider conventional paradigms through experimenting with movement. Shows run on a continuous soundtrack, breaking only for intermission, while also incorporating elaborate video and lighting.

A Strictly Funk production is not just a performance; it's an experience.
","events":[],"facebook":"https://facebook.com/pg/strictlyfunk/","github":"","how_to_get_involved":"
Check our Instagram at the start of each semester for upcoming workshop and audition dates!
","instagram":"https://instagram.com/strictlyfunk/","is_ghost":true,"is_request":false,"linkedin":"","listserv":"","members":[{"active":false,"email":"elfranco@sas.upenn.edu","image":null,"name":"Ella Franco","public":true,"title":"Member","username":"elfranco","description":""},{"active":false,"email":"vismaya@wharton.upenn.edu","image":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/penn.clubs/users/vismaya.JPG","name":"Vismaya Mohindra","public":true,"title":"Member","username":"vismaya","description":""},{"active":true,"email":"bremy@sas.upenn.edu","image":null,"name":"Remy Lipman","public":true,"title":"Creative Director","username":"bremy","description":""},{"active":false,"email":null,"image":null,"name":"Saryah Winborne","public":true,"title":"Member","username":"ryah","description":""},{"active":true,"email":"aitalias@upenn.edu","image":null,"name":"","public":true,"title":"Member","username":"aitalias","description":""},{"active":true,"email":null,"image":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/penn.clubs/users/vellis27.jpeg","name":"Victoria Ellis","public":true,"title":"DEI Chair, Buisness Chair","username":"vellis27","description":""},{"active":true,"email":"wilmass@sas.upenn.edu","image":null,"name":"Wilson Massaley","public":true,"title":"Chair","username":"wilmass","description":""},{"active":false,"email":"gabbyt@sas.upenn.edu","image":null,"name":"Gabby Thomas","public":true,"title":"Member","username":"gabbyt","description":""},{"active":false,"email":"sophbutl@sas.upenn.edu","image":null,"name":"Sophia Butler","public":true,"title":"Member","username":"sophbutl","description":""},{"active":true,"email":"mclear@sas.upenn.edu","image":null,"name":"Milan Clear","public":true,"title":"Director","username":"mclear","description":""},{"active":false,"email":"deving26@seas.upenn.edu","image":null,"name":"Devin Gottlieb","public":true,"title":"Member","username":"deving26","description":""},{"active":false,"email":"douniax@sas.upenn.edu","image":null,"name":"Natalie Chang","public":true,"title":"Member","username":"douniax","description":""},{"active":true,"email":"yasheka@sas.upenn.edu","image":null,"name":"Yasheka Smith","public":true,"title":"Producer","username":"yasheka","description":""},{"active":false,"email":"xscott@wharton.upenn.edu","image":null,"name":"Xian Scott","public":true,"title":"Member","username":"xscott","description":""},{"active":true,"email":"laujohn@sas.upenn.edu","image":null,"name":"Lauren Johnson","public":true,"title":"DEI Chair, Social Chair","username":"laujohn","description":""},{"active":true,"email":"goldmanz@sas.upenn.edu","image":null,"name":"Zoe Goldman","public":true,"title":"Assistant Chair","username":"goldmanz","description":""},{"active":true,"email":null,"image":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/penn.clubs/users/laylag.jpg","name":"Layla Gardner","public":true,"title":"Chair","username":"laylag","description":""},{"active":false,"email":"gremi@sas.upenn.edu","image":null,"name":"Remi Greenberg","public":true,"title":"Member","username":"gremi","description":""},{"active":true,"email":"evasing1@sas.upenn.edu","image":null,"name":"Eva Singletary","public":true,"title":"Logistics and Alumni Liaison","username":"evasing1","description":""}],"signature_events":"","student_types":[],"target_majors":[],"target_schools":[],"target_years":[],"testimonials":[],"twitter":"","website":"","youtube":"https://youtube.com/@StrictlyFunkDanceCo","status":{"id":3,"name":"INACTIVE"},"classification":{"id":4,"name":"Undergraduate open","symbol":"UGo"},"group_activity_assessment":[{"id":8,"text":"None of the above","is_active":true,"order":8}]}
