Description

ASAP is a group of undergraduate and graduate students dedicated to raising awareness about sexual violence on campus. We advocate for survivors and stronger consent education at Penn, host discussions and workshops about consent education, work to clarify sexual misconduct resources at Penn, and host documentary screenings, speakers and other events.

Each spring, ASAP plans and sponsors Take Back The Night, a campus-wide protest of sexual violence and a survivor vigil. We work in close concert with Penn Violence Prevention and Penn Women’s Center, as well as other anti-violence groups on campus to keep ensure continued awareness for sexual misconduct.

Question: What does ASAP do during the fall vs spring semesters? - Anonymous

All year we run workshops, plan campaigns, meet with Penn departments, and bring in speakers, but in the Spring we devote a bit more time to Take Back the Night. We typically will have an extra meeting each week starting in January for the committee members to focus on TBTN planning.

Question: I am interested in getting involved with ASAP, what kinds of projects or activities can I participate in? - Anonymous

We have a range of projects ASAP is working on, and we are happy to connect you to a project that helps your skills and interests shine. Some of our initiatives for the 2023-2024 school year include:

1) Campaigns: Bringing attention to students about support options on campus, and what consent means. Regardless of the stage in their journey, we want to make sure students know where to go to get the support they deserve, and how to have meaningful conversations with their peers. This is a good fit if you have an interest in interdisciplinary work, marketing, education, and/or peer support.

2) Speaker Events: In the past, we've brought in authors, policymakers, advocates, and activists who can speak about their journies in creating change for survivors. This is a good fit if you enjoy outreach, logistics, marketing, networking, and/or policy work.

3) Conversations about change: If you think something needs to change at Penn relating to this space, let's work together. Whether it's working with other student groups on campus, or drafting letters to the administration, we can work together together to make impactful change that makes our campus safer. If you've made it this far in reading, it's probably a good fit for you.

4) Publishing a comprehensive guide to all of the resources available to students navigating interpersonal violence. Once published we need help making sure everyone knows where to find it.
