AND is a student organization focused on neurodiversity at Penn. We aim to bring broader awareness to neurodivergence, support the neurodiverse student population, and create a cultural space for Neurodivergents on campus. We host workshops, social events, and awareness campaigns to make Neurodivergent culture a part of Penn's diverse campus. Students of all neurotypes are welcome to join!

Question: If I am not Neurodivergent, can I still be a part of AND? - Anonymous

Yes! If you find AND a comfortable space, you're welcome to come hang out :)

Neurodiversity is not a binary category, nor is there a way to definitively "diagnose" people. We aim to build a space that is welcoming to people interested in the social and cultural phanomena that stem from neurodiversity, and affirming of nonconforming ways to inhabit our shared spaces.

Question: What does it mean to be Neurodivergent? - Anonymous

In short, it means that you process world differently from most people.

Neurodiversity refers to the natural variation in human neurology, much like biodiversity refers to the variety of life on Earth. Neurodivergent refers to anyone who's brain does not conform to the typical or normative assumptions about mental and cognitive processing. Some common examples include autism, ADHD, dyslexia, depression, and anxiety.

For AND, being neurodivergent is also a social and cultural identity - often times more importantly that than a medical diagnosis. We support everyone's individual choice to identify with any label they feel most comfortable with, and welcome people at all stages of self-discovery!
