Alpha Delta Phi Society is a gender-inclusive Greek society founded in 1832.
We've been at Penn since 2010, founded by a group of Penn students who thought single-gender Greek chapters weren't right for them. Since then, Penn students of all four undergraduate schools have joined the society and formed strong friendships that last even after graduation.
But, what do we actually do? Essentially, we organize events centered on three themes: education, philanthropy, and socialization.
- In terms of education, we educate ourselves by attending annual anti-violence training and leadership training, support each other in our academic pursuits with weekly study groups, and visit educational institutions in Philly like the Edgar Allen Poe House.
- Philanthropy is another big part of what we do. Every year we raise money for Books Through Bars, a Philly organization that supports inmate literacy. This past spring, we donated to the Attic Youth Center specifically to support queer youth of color in Philly. We do more than donate money though: our members volunteer in hospitals, vet clinics, schools, and other student organizations at Penn. Finally, we are very passionate about activism and in small groups we attend Philly events like trans rights rallies and Black Lives Matter protests.
- Finally, we do many events just for socialization! Some recent official events we've done include weekly movie nights, some game nights, and a formal. We've also done events that are designed to support mental wellness such as decompression spaces. Of course, we host some open events for non-members at the beginning of each semester. Anyone is welcome at these advertised events!
