ABOUT US

BlackGen Capital is a student group at the University of Pennsylvania. The purpose of BlackGen Capital is to empower underrepresented minorities, specifically Black/African-American, Hispanic, and Native American students, to pursue careers in finance and business by fostering a supportive community and providing accessible educational resources and networking opportunities. We are open to all students. Our focus is to not only cater to students who already have exposure to this industry but to also attract students who do not have any experience with finance and are highly interested in learning more.

CORE VALUES

BlackGen Capital holds four critically important values: Diversity, Empowerment, Philanthropy, and Education.

Question: What’s the difference between cohort member and gbm member besides the active participation? - Anonymous

The GBM program is distinct from the core education series, offering members professional development opportunities such as resume and interview workshops, career panels, speaker events, socials, corporate partnership events, and community service projects. These activities allow members to strengthen their professional skills, build valuable networking connections, and prepare for future leadership roles. GBM membership is designed to be a flexible, lower time commitment option compared to the Cohort program— GBM participants are expected to attend at least 60% of meetings to remain active.

In contrast, the Cohort program involves a higher level of engagement through weekly educational meetings focused on learning the fundamentals of finance as well as mandatory GBM attendance. Cohort members also collaborate on developing a stock pitch, which may be submitted to our annual stock pitch competition. As part of fostering an inclusive and integrated community, all Cohort members are automatically enrolled as GBM members.
