Club Mission

Cosmic Writers is a student group at the University of Pennsylvania, and an emerging nonprofit that provides high-quality, accessible creative writing education for K–12 students. Especially as children are first learning how to convey ideas on the page, creative writing is an extremely impactful tool for developing their communication skills and passion for words. However, in contrast to the recent push for STEM learning, there are very few programs that provide children with creative writing education — and of the programs that do exist, most are expensive and/or located only in major cities. Cosmic Writers was founded to provide an equitable opportunity for children to learn writing skills. Our programming prioritizes accessibility to all geographic locations, and our pedagogy is designed to be flexible to the needs of students from all socioeconomic backgrounds.

How to Get Involved

Our leadership team will be adding members over the course of fall 2021 and winter/spring 2022. Before the end of the 2021–2022 school year, we intend to add a Director of Analytics, a Director of Marketing, and a Director of Technology. We're also looking for students who would be interested in designing and teaching afterschool creative writing workshops in Philadelphia schools. If any of these positions sound like you, please contact the Executive Director, Rowana Miller, at rowana@sas.upenn.edu for more information!
