Law Students for a Democratic Society was established to advance a program of critical inquiry and political dissent at Penn Law centered around questions of law and political economy. In the face of the legal system’s entrenchment of racism, economic exploitation, and militarism, it is our responsibility to uproot the reactionary politics that pervades the legal profession. Our task is to build a new culture at Penn Law that confronts power rather than obscures it, that engenders community rather than alienation, and that marches in solidarity with social struggle rather than worships at the altar of false prestige. Through strategic interventions in the intellectual life of Penn Law, we aim to cultivate fertile ground for humanistic, politically conscious, and radical lawyering.
