The US healthcare system is one that is overextended and inequitable and, as a result, preventative care, a crucial aspect of healthcare, is often overlooked. Teaching and encouraging a preventative lifestyle is a form of healthcare that can, and will, make a difference in the health of many communities. Medical Volunteers for Prevention is a student-run group at the University of Pennsylvania that aims to reach various communities and provide them with the knowledge to lead a healthy lifestyle. Whether it be older communities where Osteoporosis is prevalent or marginalized communities through which navigating healthcare insurance seems impossible, our goal is to provide individuals with healthcare knowledge so that they can take back their health, minimize their risk of injury and disease, and advocate for their needs in a medical setting.
