Overview
Penn Animation is a student-run, multiple animator project production club at the University of Pennsylvania. We are a welcoming space for students of all different experience levels and interests to learn and most importantly, enjoy! the experience of animation through contributing to an ongoing multiple animator project!
We strive to be a place for those who are simply curious about animation as medium that we believe expresses thought-provoking ideas, inspiring life lessons, or simply awestruck sceneries to both adults and children alike.
Production Team Structure
The club involves a production team for our films and our general members (participation in film production is always welcome but not required!)
The production team is currently working on "The Golden Acorn,"a multiple-animator short film project which is currently in the animation stage of the production pipeline.
As a multiple-animator project, the film is split into many small 2-10 second segments that production members are free to pick to give a shot at animating! It's amazing to see everyone's different styles and flair, and designing the production this way has allowed for the team to be as inclusive as possible to people's differing level of experience in animation.
So far, we've had many amazing members animate their own segments, and you can have a look at the current state of some of the film on our new instagram page, @pennanimation, or through the following google drive link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1D3qcXuRWRFYljhoXXr1YtwbJA4aRrQR-/view?usp=sharing.
Club Structure
Outside of the Production Team, we also host movie nights and other animation-related social events in hopes of fostering a warm and welcoming community for animation-enthusiasts!
Accessibility
One of our strongest values at the core of the club is to try and help as many people, regardless of their level of access or prior experience with digital art, learn and experience animating in a low-stress environment.
For this purpose, we've been working with a segment-system, where different members can work on their own individual segments at their own pace and schedule, as well as with their own art style. You can also choose to work on very short segments, or longer ones/multiple, based on how much animation you think you might want to do in your free time- it's all up to you!
What We Believe
When people of completely different backgrounds, experiences and skills are able to come together to convey a story through a series of moving drawings, it is an entirely magical experience.
