Description

The Penn Band was founded in 1897, making us one of the oldest student groups on campus. With about 150 members from 25 states and 14 countries, we are also one of the biggest groups at Penn and one of the largest bands in the Ivy League. We assemble over 100 times each academic year, making us among the most active college bands in the country.

Throughout the year, we attend Penn football games and most men's and women's basketball games. Along with traveling to sporting events, we also represent Penn at special events in Philadelphia and across the Northeast. We remain on campus before and after the school year to make a presence at New Student Orientation and at Commencement. Finally, we pride ourselves on our community outreach, which includes performing at local events like the annual Take Back the Night March, visiting local elementary schools to inspire a love for music, and inviting high school band students to play alongside us at games!

Our plans for this school year include a mix of in-person and virtual events, like sporting games, movie/game nights, and other section-specific events.

We want Penn Band to work in your schedule! We have 1-2 rehearsals and 1-2 sporting events each week, with additional community and social events.. There is a minimum rehearsal attendance requirement in order to vote in our elections, but for the most part, you come to what you can and if you are having a busy week and can't make it, we completely understand!

Question: What kind of instruments/can be played in penn band - Anonymous

We have most band instruments in our group--flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, mellophone, trombone, euphonium, sousaphone, and an extensive percussion section (drums, bells, etc.). We have some flexibility in our instrumentation, so if you play an instrument that isn't one of those, talk to us about how you can fit in the band! We also have a color guard!
