Club Mission

The Penn Bridge Club is a student group at the University of Pennsylvania.

We are centered around a well-established card game known as contract bridge. Contract bridge is a sophisticated game, known for its competitive and social nature. It requires skill, wit, and a proper application of logic for victory. In terms of ability and skill, bridge always triumphs against other card games, because of the mechanisms and regulations involved that eliminates a significant amount of luck. This is the reason why bridge is often compared to chess, and some may argue that bridge is superior to chess.

Even with all the complexities involved, bridge is also a social game; it is often encouraged for you to meet new people and socialize (even if you are playing in an official competition or tournament). This presents a valuable opportunity for its players to expand their network and forge valuable connections that will likely open many doors; A majority of Bridge players are those from an older generation, and some of those players wield significant influence or personally know others who do. Among the famous current and former bridge players are Bill Gates, Mahatma Gandhi, Warren Buffet, Deng Xiaoping, and Dwight D. Eisenhower.

The Penn Bridge Club will be involved in both competitive and social aspects, while aiming to grow and promote the game of bridge. Everyone is highly encouraged to dive into the competitive bridge scene, but it is also fine if people wish to only play casually.

The club will participate in official ACBL matches against hundreds and thousands of people from all over America; these matches range from local games all the way up to national tournaments. Members will learn various techniques and strategies from a Regional Master ranked player with multiple tournament wins. In addition, there will be opportunities to be coached by a world champion. There is also an option for experienced members to teach bridge to other students at Penn or other high schools.
