Club Mission

Overview:
The Penn Data Science Alliance offers a unique experience for students interested in data science and analytics. We are a group of students from all different backgrounds that come together to discuss the application of data science in diverse fields. Students in this club will be exposed to various facets of data analytics that will empower them to think of problems through a new lens. The club hosts data science speakers, workshops, meetings, social events, and more to discuss trends in data science in diverse fields. Students from Wharton, CAS, Nursing, and Engineering are encouraged to apply. No prior experience is required.

PDSA is currently composed of 4 committees:

Social Committee: This committee helps foster a tight-knit community that sets members up for success. They plan social events, and work on creative ways to strengthen PDSA's internal professional networks. This committee is in charge of planning things such as holiday formals, socials, and more.

Marketing Committee: This committee develops marketing strategies to attract and retain new members. They focus on designing banners, brochures, visuals, and anything else to be used for new membership recruitment. This committee has opportunities within graphic design, video, photography, and more.

Data Science Committee: This committee aims to further students’ knowledge in data science, and prepare students for data science related competitions. They will source real data sets in order to develop and complete investigative projects related to data science. Members of this committee will familiarize themselves with modern data science technology using Tableau, AWS, R, and python. Furthermore, this committee is home to the Data for Empowerment Project (DEP), which provides data analytics services to non-profit organizations. We seek individuals from diverse backgrounds; no previous experience required.

Events Committee: This committee is dedicated to planning and hosting career oriented events that bring together data scientists in different industries. This group is focused on the educational speaker series, networking events with alumni, workshops, and other events.

No, we do not expect coding experience or a data analytics background in new members. We focus on your critical thinking skills, interest, and eagerness to learn.
