We exist to empower the North Korean people as they drive progress inside their country. As an organization, we focus on fundraising, creating discussion, and raising awareness for human rights issues regarding the North Korean people. </span></p>

Penn for Liberty in North Korea

As a freshman looking to join organizations that reflected a true passion of mine, I found PennLiNK an opportunity to not only support refugees in a foreign country, but to also sort of pay back my grandfather. He escaped North Korea when he was 15 years old, with just a water bottle and the clothes on his back, leaving all he knew in search for a better life. It is this courageous action, this willingness to follow heart and hope, that forces me to see my education as a way to make a tangible impact on the world I live in and the people I live among. PennLiNK provides me with the chance to raise funds and support those, who like my grandfather, are chasing dreams that with our help, can become a reality.

Sometimes, being at Penn makes me forget what I have; all my blessings quickly turn into to burdens and stressors. Participating in Penn’s LiNK chapter keeps me reminded that there are lives out there that need a voice and, if what I have can add even a decibel to that, I will continue to fight for their rights.
