Club Mission

Penn Tech Prophets (PTP) is a student group that creates educational and entrepreneurial opportunities to explore the relationship between technology and society. Our mission is to reimagine tech as a tool for making life happier, mentally healthier, and more meaningful.

As the pace of innovation accelerates, most technologists are focused on the profits reaped. We aim to become prophets — deeply thinking about how to craft apps, software, and products that increase subjective well-being. We will investigate the potential embedded within Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Robotics, Nanotechnology, and Blockchain for both good and bad.

Some of PTP’s programs include:

  • Disruptive Technologies Forum - monthly presentations by members of the club on a particular emerging technology, followed by discussion.
  • Speaker Series - monthly presentations by technologists working at the intersection of tech and society.
  • Good Tech Lab - design and programming of apps for social good.
  • Tech Fasts - biannual event that challenges the community to go 24 hours without smartphone use.

Our club is open to tech-lovers, tech-haters, and everyone in between. No particular technical knowledge is required. Join and become a Tech Prophet!
