Stitch it to the Patriarchy—or Stitch It, for short—was founded at Tulane University in 2019 as an upcycled clothing brand that prioritized social impact. Since then, it has expanded to several college campuses across the country. As an organization, Stitch It strives to engage in political discourse, educate individuals about climate change, and provide an alternative to fast fashion. Its mission is to foster an inclusive community with the intention of creating lasting progressive change through thought-provoking, sustainable clothing and grassroots efforts. On Penn's campus, rather than promoting Stitch It clothing, our team aims to take meaningful action towards environmental, economic, racial, housing, and health justice as well as gender equity. To this end, we focus on political organizing, supporting and collaborating with other groups at Penn and in Philadelphia, and spreading awareness about issues of social justice, sustainability, and the climate crisis. Stitch It @ Penn encourages students of all backgrounds to join our team if they are interested in contributing to progressive change in the Penn and Philly communities.
