About WEDIG

The Wharton Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Group (WEDIG) is a division-sponsored student group comprised of Wharton undergraduates that aims to provide a more inclusive Wharton community where students of all backgrounds feel that Wharton is a safe, comfortable, and equitable space through initiatives and programs.

WEDIG is going to focus on bridging the gap in satisfaction for groups that have been historically less satisfied, including underrepresented minorities. We want to make Wharton a place where everyone can feel they belong, no matter their identity: race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, or socio-economic background.

To accomplish these goals, we run initiatives focused on advisory as related to Wharton Undergraduates' learning experience and student life, as well as programming focused on community-building. Through these initiatives, we have been able to interface with faculty and administration on crucial issues including club recruiting and DEI implementation in the classroom, as well as generate genuine and insightful conversation through programming events with over 250+ attendees.

If you are passionate and committed to initiatives to advance inclusion in your time at Wharton, this is the organization for you!

Question: Do I need to be a wharton student to apply? - Anonymous

Hi! Thank you for your question!

Unfortunately, to apply to be a part of our board you do need to be a Wharton Student as we are a Wharton sponsored organization, this is the divisions policy.

You are more than welcome to apply to be a part of our GBM if you are not in Wharton or participate in any WEDIG events! We hope that you'll join our community and sign up for our listserv here.

How to Get Involved

Our club recruits General Body Members in the Spring semester and Board Members in the Fall semester.

General Body Members will have the opportunity to work on a broad set of projects and provide input on current work streams that WEDIG is currently working on whilst also being a priority for our new and upcoming research grants. Some of the work that General Body Members can anticipate working on, but are not limited to, are:

-Academic Research in DEI regarding the intricacies of its existence on our campus as well as in other universities and the rest of the world

-Event Planning consisting of the opportunity to create and organize an event to further push our mission and values related to DEI that is led by a collective from the GBM Program

-And other projects that may come along or thought of by members of the GBM Program

Through these workstreams and more, members will learn the intricacies of working with Wharton and Penn Administration and how to continue to get involved in Undergraduate work.

We strongly encourage anyone from Penn, regardless of their school, to apply to this program who is interested in the broader field of work of DEI at Penn and to continue to facilitate a space at Penn that makes all students feel comfortable, safe, and equal.

Board Members help to lead WEDIG initiatives and internal development, and GBM members are involved with our student programming and representing WEDIG across Wharton.
