Women's Club Volleyball

UndergraduateGraduateRecreationClub SportsSCC

Description

The women’s club volleyball team is a competitive club designed for undergraduate/graduate women at the University of Pennsylvania who played volleyball at the varsity and/or club level in high school and wish to continue playing competitively. The club atmosphere is not as rigorous as varsity college sports, but it is significantly more competitive than intramural teams.

Our season is from September to May. Commitments include: two 2-hour practices per week, two workouts/lifts outside of practice per week, 3-4 single-day tournaments per semester, and the annual 3-day National Tournament held in April.

We ranked 21st and 14th in Division IAAA at our last National Tournament appearance in 2019 and 2022 (the 2020/21 tournaments were canceled due to COVID-19).

Question: I have a question about the playing experience for any current members at the graduate-level? I have to complete a certain number of internship hours for my program, and I would like to know how well any graduate players are able to balance the club's commitments as well as their degree requirements? - Anonymous
Hi, great question. For the past 4 seasons, we have had at least one graduate or post-bacc student on the team. Time management differs person to person and depends on your graduate program, but most students find being on the team manageable and practices a respite from academic work. Specifically, commitments include: two 2-hour practices per week, two workouts/lifts outside of practice per week (on your own time), 3-4 single-day tournaments per semester, and the annual 3-day National Tournament held in April. We make every effort to decide on a practice schedule prior to course registration each semester, so that members can plan accordingly. Single-day tournament dates are decided a few weeks into the semester and are on Saturdays or Sundays.

Question: Hello! I am an incoming graduate student, and I am very interested in joining! I understand that there may still be some current restrictions on club sports due to COVID-19, but may I ask if/when potential try-outs would be hosted (assuming Penn Recreation allows for an open season again)? - Anonymous
Hi, thanks for your interest. There is currently a restriction on club sports holding in-person events until at least March 29th. Therefore, we will likely not hold tryouts until fall 2021 at the earliest. We are hoping to host some events, potentially outdoor play, if allowed later this spring. These events would not be tryouts, but rather opportunities to get touches on the ball (we're all rusty) and to get to know the team. Please subscribe to our Penn Clubs page and stay tuned!

Hi, thanks for your interest. Unfortunately, Penn Recreation has prohibited in-person activities for club sports until March 29th. We are hoping to host some events, potentially outdoor play, if allowed later in the semester. Please stay tuned!
