In our current society, the power of spoken word is often underutilized and undervalued. However, Word for Word strives to change that by catalyzing profound, difficult, and necessary conversations about the various medical and healthcare accessibility issues that individuals and communities are afflicted with. From the lack of proper sanitation supplies to intraviral diseases, the people of Philadelphia will always have a story to share.
As an organization, we hope to provide a listening ear for these underrepresented individuals; we hope to illuminate the stories of patients, doctors, and people who deal with medical issues; and we hope to utilize these stories to spread awareness and garner fundraising/support for the most pressing issues in today’s world.
Outside of this scope, Word for Word also desires to bring an emphasis on the appreciation of medical humanities and art. Various poems, short stories, abstracts, and vignettes of many forms will be shared to express how the humanities and medicine are undeniably intertwined with one another.
Word for Word is a promising undergraduate medical humanities journal that elevates unheard voices and minds. If this sounds like an effort you are interested in, apply today!
