Feminism (noun): Respect for people of all genders, sexualities, and races.&nbsp;
The F-Word is a collection of feminist voices that comes together in a biannual print publication, weekly discussion groups, and an online blog. We are a student-run publication at the University of Pennsylvania, and we aim to be a space for people of all backgrounds to talk, write, or create art through their experiences. We hope to represent and welcome many voices with meaningful thoughts to share: queer, POC, all genders, and all socioeconomic backgrounds. We hope to foster more thoughtful campus discussion on the bounds of and potential for feminism, intersectionality, social justice, and the role of publication and writing in all of the above.

A Collection of Feminist Voices

Applying to the F-Word board was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made at Penn. As the poetry editor, I got to work with people from all over Penn on their works. It was a great chance for me to learn how to work with and guide others on creative writing, which relates to my other areas of interest at Penn as an English major. Moreover, it allowed me to be exposed to a wide range of feminist writings, which I really enjoyed. I also really love the environment of the F-Word as a whole. I look forward to our meetings every week, as I’ll not only get to discuss feminist works with a bunch of equally passionate people, I am also walking into an incredibly respectful, supportive community that’s not afraid to challenge each other. I’ve learned a lot from these meetings, about creative writing or feminist movements. The meetings, as well as the many retreats and events that we’ve had, are a welcoming respite from the often competitive nature at Penn. Overall, I just love being a part of a group that is working towards a common goal of advocating for marginalized groups, and it makes me feel like I’m a part of something bigger.

One of my favorite things about F-Word is the pieces that are submitted to us. There are so many issues and topics brought up in the poetry and prose, not to mention the variety of subjects addressed in the photography and art; it really illustrates just how dynamic the concept of ""feminism"" is. The space we created is also incredibly welcoming in that we're all respectful to each other, the work we review, and we treat each other not just as club members but friends. I'm always excited to attend meetings!
