The Onyx Senior Honor Society represents the highest standards of academic excellence and leadership among the diverse groups at the University of Pennsylvania. The members of the Society have achieved outstanding academic merit and have proven themselves devoted to the university's tradition, diversity, and citizenship.
Founded in 1974, Onyx originally sought to establish supporting institutions for underrepresented students at Penn, address university issues through open forums, and provide programming for academic achievement and networking. Today, the Society continues to perpetuate its tenets of heritage, humanity, and humility through community service, academic support workshops, and alumni engagement.
