Parkinson's Pals facilitates intergenerational connections between passionate students and Parkinson's Patients. It is noted that nearly 55% of Parkinson’s patients experience isolationism and some form of depression. Overall, Parkinson’s Pals hopes to provide a new face and friend for patients.
1-on-1 Pairing: Each student is assigned a patient for a 4 to 6 week time period. Students and patients will meet virtually over zoom each week.
<h2>Student Training: Students will learn about Parkinson's Disease, how to work with patients, situational awareness, and ability to emotionally connect with patients. Guides will be provided to students on how to hold a session with a patient.</h2>
<h2>Student Benefits: Students receive mentorship and career advice from their pals, formal training on handling patients, and volunteer hours. Additionally, students are exposed to a new patient group and develop a better understanding of Parkinson's and neurodegenerative diseases.</h2>
