Club Mission

Penn Empower Through Health (ETH) is a student group at Penn and chapter of the international organization Empower Through Health which works to create an interdisciplinary and intercultural innovation hub to tackle the world's most pressing humanitarian and public health issues. One of the core focuses of the organization is the Buyende District in Uganda. Buyende has a population of 363,000 but only one practicing clinical physician. ETH's interdisciplinary team is working to provide direct clinical healthcare, conduct research projects, and provide health education to combat a variety of diseases and problems like malaria, malnutrition, and mental health. Penn's chapter of ETH will focus on deworming interventions. 60% of children in ETH's catchment area are estimated to live with worm infections. Throughout the year, we will be working alongside the team in Uganda to raise funds for the distribution of Praziquantel, a deworming drug. We will also be instituting community-wide education campaigns on best practices for infection prevention, detection, and treatment. Alongside the deworming campaign, our club will be actively educating and learning from other university chapters of ETH regarding key issues in global health.
