Penn Lions is the Greater Philadelphia region's premier collegiate lion dance troupe. The troupe was formed in 2007 as a branch of Chinese Students Association and has since evolved into its own entity. Since then, this student group has performed not only on campus, but all across the East Coast for weddings, a countless number of schools, festivals, TV stations like NBC and ABC, Philadelphia's mayor Michael Nutter, the USMNT, and more!&nbsp;

The University of Pennsylvania's premier lion dance troupe

Penn Lions is like a family to me. When I joined, I had no lion dance experience, but they were all very friendly and taught me everything. I would give up my life for Penn Lions.

For anyone who has ever joined a performing arts group in the past, you would probably know that your first performance is often the most stressful, and this is no exception here at Penn Lions. This is the case since each member is very enthusiastic about lion dancing and this desire to perform well is often infectious, especially as a newcomer who is often learning this style of performance for the first time. Though, this is what Penn Lions is all about: a team that loves to lion dance and is constantly learning from each member's, whether old or new, unique perspectives and experiences.

Not only does Penn Lions provide me with an important cultural community on campus, it's also one of the most rewarding organizations I have ever been a member of. The overall mindset and attitude of Penn Lions members consistently inspires me to improve my lion dancing technique as well as to support other members in their lion dancing progress. Every single member cares about our mission of learning, teaching, and demonstrating traditional lion dancing at Penn, which sustains an incredibly genuine, supportive, and boundary-pushing troupe that I am honored to be a part of.
