Penn Singers Light Opera Company

Penn Singers Light Opera Company is the only four-year student musical theatre company at Penn!

Unlike all other theatre groups on campus, Singers gives Penn students the ability to work under professional directors from NYC and Philly on full-scale, high-quality musicals. Not only do you get to work on big broadway-hits like The Addams Family and Legally Blonde, but it also provides a space for those with operatic voices to perform in our Light Operas in the spring!

I've worked with nearly every TAC-e group, and Singers is truly my family. The Board consists of some of the bests from every theatre group on campus, and it's really cool to see them all come together to lead the only solely musical theatre group on campus. Not to mention the fact that Singers shows are probably the highest quality (both in production value, but also talent wise) shows I've ever seen at Penn.

I was too nervous to audition for Singers my freshman fall, but finally gained the courage my sophomore year and it was by far the best decision I've made in my time at Penn. Although many of the company members that join have had a good amount of experience in high school and whatnot, it's great how we also take new performers with lots of potential (vocals, acting, and/or dance) and help train them to be triple-threats. Singers is the best part of each semester for me, we don't just work on a show, we have consistent bonding events throughout the week, support each other in other shows, and genuinely just enjoy spending time together. To anyone debating whether or not they should audition: you might as well throw your hat in the ring, you never know what could happen!
