Club Mission

The Liberation Foundation Student Justice Initiative is an undergraduate club at the University of Pennsylvania that volunteers with the Liberation Foundation in order to assist incarcerated Pennsylvanians who have wrongful conviction claims or are preparing to transition from life in jail or prison to life in the community.

The Liberation Foundation is a Philadelphia-based nonprofit founded by former juvenile lifer and exoneree Terrance Lewis in 2020. The Liberation Foundation (TLF) is dedicated to providing advocacy for incarcerated Pennsylvanians with wrongful conviction claims and reentry preparation services for Philadelphians who are currently incarcerated or recently released from incarceration.

At TLF, we know that radical change to the justice system is a community-wide project. Working with young people throughout Pennsylvania, The Liberation Foundation's Student Justice Initiative promotes Penn student involvement in criminal justice reform in the Philadelphia area. Through participation in SJI, Penn students pursuing college or law degrees aid our mission by assisting in all parts of the investigation process, managing TLF's social media, and coordinating fundraising efforts.
