Founded by transfers in 2011, the Transfer Student Organization (TSO, a student group at the University of Pennsylvania) is a community of transfer students dedicated to providing academic and social support for its members. Transferring to a new school presents challenges outside the realm of traditional advising and support structures and thus TSO was created. TSO now plays a central role in coordinating and staffing the New Student Orientation for transfers in order to foster relationships and integration into the Penn community.

Transfer Student Organization

Transfer Student Organization (TSO) is a community of transfer students dedicated to providing academic and social support for its members.

While Penn is a generally amazing school, I think the fact that it has such a passionate and engaged group of transfer students makes it the perfect school for an incoming transfer student. When I entered Penn, I was unsure of how my transition was going to be. However, during the week of transfer orientation, I was able to meet a ton of great people (some of whom ended up being my best friends). As a result, my transition ended up going more smoothly than I could ever have imagined. For me, TSO is what Penn has that other schools simply do not, making it the ideal destination for students transferring schools.

My favorite and most memorable mentorship event was the smores event because that's when I first met my mentor Jane. Jane found me at the event and we ended up talking for most of the time we were there. Meeting one-on-one with a person can be intimidating at first, and I think the smores event allowed me to meet and become acquainted with my mentor in a relaxed environment.
