Club Mission

UMOJA speaks as the representative voice of Black students and student organizations at the University of Pennsylvania and derives its legitimacy from the consent and confidence of its membership organizations (Constituents). UMOJA is charged with uniting its Constituents into a common political voice, mobilizing its Constituents for a common agenda, and organizing its Constituents under a common calendar. While UMOJA’s mission is rooted in advancing the experiences of Black students, its programs, advocacy, and activities remain open to the entire Penn community.

How to Get Involved

UMOJA is a 7B umbrella organization that represents Black constituent groups at Penn. The best way to get involved is by joining a constituent group’s executive board, which provides firsthand experience in how UMOJA operates. Our role includes collecting feedback from our constituents and presenting it to higher entities, as well as providing funding and support to our groups. UMOJA Board applications open in late November, and the newly selected board officially transitions each January. While our focus is on the needs of Black students, all members of the Penn community are welcome to engage with our programming and initiatives.
