West Philadelphia Sanctuary (WPS) works to strengthen social connection and belonging across West Philadelphia by creating welcoming, accessible spaces where people can gather, build relationships, and participate in community life.
Our team’s experience in community health across Philadelphia has shown us that many people experiencing loneliness, housing instability, or other social barriers lack consistent access to free, welcoming places to spend time with others and form lasting relationships. WPS responds by creating recurring community spaces centered on art, music, creative activities, and conversation, while connecting participants with essential resources and community-based support.
Through our weekly programs at The Rotunda and Walnut Street West Library, community partnerships, research, and program evaluation, we aim to understand what helps people build sustained social connection and translate those lessons into stronger programs across West Philadelphia.
